What Happened to Forever?

Chapters 89-90

~*~Chapter 89~*~

“Okay, I guess I better get down that aisle. See you at the altar!” Emily says as she takes her place. Elizabeth nods and gives her a quick hug.

“Thank you, Em. You’re the best friend a girl could ever have.” They smile at each other as Emily gets ready to enter the church. LuLu and Lucas are in front of her. LuLu looks adorable in her flower girl dress, and can’t stop fidgeting. The doors open and she shuffles inside, throwing rose petals everywhere. The guests all giggle at how cute she is. Lucas is right behind her with the rings.

The music starts and Elizabeth stands back and watches Emily walk down the aisle. She takes a deep breath, smiling at the butterflies in her stomach.

“Hey, there’s still time if you want to back down. You can always run away with me,” Luke says, grinning.

Liz laughs. “Thanks, Luke, but there’s no way I’m going to back down from this. It’s all I’ve dreamed about for years now.” He smiles and holds out his arm. She takes it and the music changes to announce them.

“Here goes nothin’,” Luke whispers as they turn the corner and enter the church.

Lucky smiles when he sees that his father is walking Elizabeth down the aisle, and his heart nearly stops once he sees her. She is more beautiful than he could have ever imagined, and his eyes tear up as she nears him. She smiles as Luke lifts her veil and places a soft kiss on her cheek. He turns and hugs Lucky before joining Laura in the front pew.

Lucky and Elizabeth smile at each other for a moment before the priest begins. They are so lost in each other’s eyes that they don’t hear anything he’s saying. Suddenly they realize that the room had become silent, and they snap out of it.

Lucky looks at the priest guiltily, hoping he will repeat whatever he had asked. The priest smiles. It wasn’t often that he was marrying two people so in love with each other that they tuned out even him! He clears his throat. “I believe you’ve written your own vows?”

“Oh, right,” Lucky mutters, and the guests chuckle. Liz beams at him like he’s the only man in the world, which to her, he is. He takes a deep breath before speaking.

“Elizabeth, I love you. I can’t say it enough. We’ve been through so much together, and you’ve always remained right by my side. Even when everyone thought I was dying, you refused to leave my hospital bed. You will never know how much that meant to me. You are my life, Elizabeth. I can’t remember who I was before I was yours. I can’t wait for our life together, for our first child, our first grandchild, and everything in between. I promise I will do everything in my power to make you happy, and I will never do anything to hurt you. You are the only woman for me, you’re my soulmate. You've got my heart. That's a permanent lock. Everything I am is in love with you. My soul, my mind, my body, my spirit. That'll never change. I pledge myself to you Elizabeth, today, forever.”

She smiles, trying not to cry as she begins her vows. “I love you, Lucky, you are my angel. Whenever I think you can’t get any better, you do. You are truly my other half, and when you’re not around, I don’t feel complete. When I was a little girl, I loved to read fairy tales, and always dreamed that someday I would meet my knight in shining armor or a handsome prince. It turns out that fairy tales do come true, becuase you are that knight, the handsome prince, and every other hero all wrapped up in one amazing and wonderful man. I don’t know what I ever did to deserve you, but now that I have you, I’m never letting you go. I swear to you that I will be the best wife I can be and that I will never leave you for another, because you are the one and only man I could ever love. You've got my heart. That's a permanent lock. Everything I am is in love with you. My soul, my mind, my body, my spirit. That'll never change. I pledge myself to you Lucky, today, forever.”

They smile at each other, tears in their eyes, as the priest asks for the rings. They had taken them off and put them on Lucas’s pillow before the ceremony. Emily takes Lucky’s and hands it to Liz. Not waiting to be prompted by the priest, she slides it on his finger and says, “This ring is a symbol of my love. It is my promise to you, Lucky, that we will never part. With this ring, I thee wed.”

He smiles as Nikolas gets her ring and hands it to him. “This ring is a symbol of my love. It is my promise to you, Elizabeth, that we will never part. With this ring, I thee wed.”

Still amused that they had pretty much carried out the entire ceremony without him, the priest says, “If anyone here has reason why these two should not be married, speak now of forever hold your peace.” There is a moment of silence. “Then I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”

Lucky smiles and flips the veil over her head, bringing his lips down on hers tenderly. They kiss for a minute as everyone applauds. They part and smile at each other.

“I love you, Mrs. Spencer,” Lucky whispers.

“I love you too, Mr. Spencer,” she whispers back, kissing him again. She starts to pull back, but he gently grabs the back of her head and continues the kiss, forgetting that they’re being watched by most of the town.

Luke chuckles. “Okay, kids, this isn’t a Big Red commercial!” Everyone in the church laughs as the couple breaks apart guiltily. They smile meekly at each other as Lucky takes her hand and leads her out of the church through a flurry of birdseed.

Before they get into the limousine, Lucky pulls her close for another kiss. “You’ve just made me the happiest man in the world, do you know that?” he whispers, their mouths only centimeters apart.

She smiles slightly and kisses him back. “I only know what happiness is when I’m with you. Thank you for this. I love you so much.”

“Okay, kids, you can do that at the reception. Let’s get moving here!” Luke orders jokingly. They both smile at him and get into the car.

~*~Chapter 90~*~

The reception was being held at the Outback, and Nikolas had gone all out on the decorations and food. Everyone was having a great time, and Lucky and Liz couldn’t stop kissing each other. Instead of tapping their wine glasses to make them kiss, people had started tapping them to break them apart.

Nikolass rings his glass loudly to get everyone’s attention and stands up.

Lucky turns to Liz and smiles. “Great, Nikolas is giving a speech. This could take a while.”

“I heard that,” Nikolas warns before beginning. He clears his throat and starts his speech. “As Lucky’s best man, I’ve been told I’m supposed to give a speech on how in love they are and how much they’re meant for one another. Well, anyone who was at that wedding today doesn’t need me to tell them that! Lucky and Elizabeth were destined for one another. They’ve been through more than most people could ever imagine, and their love has only strenghtened. Even when we all thought he was dead last year, she never gave up on his love, and last week when we thought he was dying, she refused to leave him. That was when they were really married, and as sad as it was, I’ve never been more touched by anything in my life. I never expected that I would love my brother this much, but I do, and I wish the two of them all the happiness in the world, although I know they won’t need any help in gaining it.” He smiles as everyone toasts the couple, but doesn’t sit down.

He looks around nervously for a moment before speaking again. “I know this is unconventional, but please bear with me.” He walks behind Lucky and Elizabeth until he is standing next to Emily. She looks at him in alarm, not quite sure what he’s doing. He smiles at her and slowly gets down on one knee as everyone in the room gasps. Tears spring to her eyes and she smiles at him.

“Emily, I know we haven’t been together for very long, but I know in my heart thta I love you , and that will never change. You were my best friend for so many years, until I finally came to my senses and realized that I was in love with you. We’ve been through a lot this past year, both happy and sad times, and I feel that we have grown stronger because of them. I’ve come to realize that life is fragile, and anything can happen, especially now that I’m a Spencer!” Everyone laughs, and Luke tries to look offended. “You are the most important person in my life, and I can’t imagine being without you for one second. Emily, would you marry me?” He takes her hand and slides a stunning diamond ring on her finger.

She is too emotional to answer, so she just nods quickly and smiles. He pulls her into a hug as everyone applauds. “I love you Nikolas,”she whispers. He looks at her lovingly and pulls her in for a passionate kiss.

“I don’t believe you’re letting her do this!” Edward grumbles loudly from the Quartermaine table.

“Oh, shut up, Edward!” Alan, Monica, Ned, Alexis, Chloe, Jax, and Lila all yell. He looks at them angrily before sitting back in his chair as everyone laughs.

“Um, guys?” Lucky says, still laughing. “Isn’t it bad form for the Best Man to upstage the groom?”

Nikolas laughs and claps him on the back. “Sorry about that, little brother. After what you did at the Nurses’ Ball, I had to do something big to compete!” They all laugh again as Liz and Emily hug each other.

“You’ll be my maid of honor, right?” Emily asks through her tears.

Liz nods. “Maitron of honor now,” she corrects with a smile.

“I hope you’ll be my best man,” Nikolas says, hugging his brother.

“I’d be honored,” Lucky responds. After they hug, Luke and Laura come up to congratulate Nikolas.

“Well done, son. That was a true Spencer proposal,” Luke says warmly.

“Well, ladies and germs, I believe it’s time to the first dance!” Luke announces. Lucky and Liz exchange a private smile before getting up from the table. Lucky goes to the stage and speaks for a moment with the band, then grabs a couple of headset-microphones that he had stashed away earlier. He goes over to Liz, who is waiting in the middle of the dance floor and hands her one.

Everyone is watching this, wondering what in the world he’s doing. He smiles as he notices the many confused expressions of their guests. He adjusts his microphone and waits for Liz to fix hers. Once they’re ready, he speaks.

“I can see you’re wondering what we’re doing. Well, we had so much fun performing together at the Nurses’ Ball, that we decided to do something different here. Instead of just dancing to a sappy love song for our first dance, we decided to actually sing it together.” He smiles down at Liz, who is looking slightly nervous. With the wedding being planned so quickly, they hadn’t had a lot of time to practice this, but it was something they both wanted to do. She smiles and nods to let him know that she’s ready. He takes her in his arms as the music begins, and they start to dance.

(This is pretty much the same voicing from the album version, except reversed - Lucky is singing Shania’s part, and Liz is doing Bryan White’s. As before, L signifies Lucky’s parts, E is Elizabeth’s, and B is both of them singing together.)

L: From this moment, life has begun
E: From this moment, you are the one
L: Right beside you
B: Is where I belong
From this moment on

E: From this moment I have been blessed
L: I live only for your happiness
E: And for your love
B: I’d give my last breath
From this moment on

L: I give my hand to you with all my heart
E: Can’t wait to live my life with you, can’t wait to start
B: You and I will never be apart
My dreams came true because of you

L: From this moment
B: As long as I live
I will love you, I promise you this
There is nothing I wouldn’t give
From this moment on

E: You’re the reason I believe in love
L: And you’re the answer to my prayers from up above
B: All we need is just the two of us
My dreams came true because of you

B: From this moment as long as I live
I will love you, I promise you this
There is nothing I wouldn’t give
From this moment
L: I will love you (E: I will love you)
B: As long as I live
From this moment on

They sing the entire song, staring into each other’s eyes while they dance, forgetting that there’s anyone else in the room. They are so lost in each other, that they don’t realize right away that the song is over, even though they were the ones singing it!

Everyone starts to applaud, and they slowly part. Most of the women in the room have tears in their eyes, as do some of the men. They walk back to the table and Nikolas shakes his head.

“I hope you don’t expect me to top that one!” he jokes. Everyone laughs as the next song starts. Couples begin to fill the dance floor, and Lucky pulls Liz into yet another kiss. For once, all is right with the world.
