Chapter 23
Lucien and Elizabeth spent the rest of their dinner getting to know each other. He asked her about New York, and she asked him about growing up in Greece, hoping that he would say something that could help her figure out what Helena had done to him. Unfortunately, he seemed to have a perfectly clear memory of his entire life there. Whatever Helena did, it was good.
When they finished eating, Lucien glanced at his watch. "We better get going. Nikolas is probably going crazy wondering where his baby is!"
Liz smiled. "I didn't realize you two were that close."
He looked at her for a moment, confused, then chuckled when he realized what she meant. "Oh, no, I was talking about the Jag."
She laughed and followed him out of the restaurant. He drove her home and walked her to the front door. She was tingling with anticipation, hoping that he would kiss her. Instead, he just kissed her quickly on the cheek and said good-night. She smiled, trying to hide her disappointment, and went inside.
Audrey asked her how it went, and she sat down on the couch to fill her in. She was still floating, and couldn't stop grinning. Audrey smiled at her, pleased to see her so happy again. They talked for a little while before Liz got tired and went up to bed.
She opened her bedroom door and realized that this was the first time she'd be sleeping there since she got into town. She looked around the room and walked up to her mirror, looking at all the pictures of her and Lucky. She smiled as she spotted the one that was taken the first time they were at the No-Name. Her eyes teared up as she remembered how happy they had been. She looked sadly at her bedroom window, remembering the last kiss they shared. Sighing, she walked over and sat down in front of it, gazing out at the night sky.
"Come back to me, Lucky. Please come back."

Lucien opened the door to the cottage and found Nikolas pacing in the living room. He smiled and threw the car keys to him. "Thanks again. Don't worry, she's fine."
"Who, Liz or the car?" Nikolas asked, smiling, as he caught the keys.
"Both." Lucien flopped down on the couch and sighed happily. He didn't know how it had happened, but he had a feeling that he had fallen in love with Elizabeth Webber.
Nikolas grinned and joined him on the couch. "So, I take it the date went well?"
He nodded. "It was perfect. Carly got us into this really exclusive restaurant, I think she called it the No-Name. The place was beautiful, but not nearly as beautiful as Elizabeth. She practically glowed." He sighed again, remembering how his heart had nearly stopped when he saw her step out of her house in that dress. "The food was superb. We danced a little, and almost kissed once, but I didn't want to scare her off, so I stopped."
"What, don't you think she likes you, too?" Nikolas asked, thinking that if Lucien had kissed her, it may have triggered a memory.
"I don't know. She seems to, but I'm just worried that she may only be going out with me because of my resemblance to your brother. I want to make sure she likes me for me, as Lucien, not because I'm some replica of Lucky. Does that make sense?" He turned to look at Nikolas, happy that at least one person in Port Charles had accepted him for who he was, and didn't want to turn him into the dead Spencer boy.
Nikolas nodded. "Of course I understand. When Lucky first died, Liz and I became pretty close, and I used to be afraid that she was only hanging around with me because I reminded her of him. Finally, I accepted that she was my friend because she truly liked my company, not because of my relation to Lucky. Don't worry, I'm sure she understands who you really are."
Lucien smiled and sat back. "Good, because I can't stop thinking about her. I think I'm falling in love."
Nikolas smiled slightly. Maybe they could reach Lucky after all.

The next morning Luke and Laura were sitting in their living room when the phone rang. Laura got up to answer it, hoping it was Liz. "Hello?'
"Hi, Laura. I thought you'd like to hear how my date went last night," Liz said happily from the other end.
"Of course I do! What happened?"
"Well, he took me to the No-Name, the same place Lucky brought me on our first date. He said he got Carly to make the reservations, which was funny because the first time, Jason did it."
"Yeah, I heard about that. Luke was with Carly when he called her. I thought that sounded like a good sign."
"I know, I thought the same thing. Also, he brought me a white rose when he picked me up. I know that's not that big, but ever since Valentine's Day, white roses were sort of our thing, you know? It just seemed ironic that he would pick that color."
Laura nodded and smiled. "I can see what you mean. What else?"
Liz giggled at her eagerness. "Well, we danced a little, and he almost kissed me. I think he was afraid to rush things, though. I'll admit I was disappointed, but it was also kind of sweet. We ate dinner and then he took me home. He kissed me on the cheek before leaving, and that was it. I know it's not much, but after spending time with him, I really think he's Lucky. There's just too many similarities. I asked him about Greece, to see if I could pick up on anything odd, but everything he said sounded like her really believed he lived there. I don't know what they did to him, but I just hope we can reverse it. I don't know what I'll do if he never remembers, Laura!"
"Well, we'll just have to take things slowly. If that happens, we'll have to deal with it. He seems to like you, even as Lucien. Do you think you could be with him, even if he never remembers?"
"I don't know, but I hope I don't have to find out. I'm so close to having him back, I can't imagine losing him forever like that!"
The two women talked for a few more minutes before hanging up, and Laura gave Luke a quick recap of what Liz told her. Just as she was finishing, there was a knock on the door. Luke went to open it and found Mac standing there, holding an envelope.
"Hey, Luke. You weren't at the club yet, so I figured I'd bring these here. I know how much you wanted to see them." He held out the envelope and Luke took it.
"Are these the dental records?" Luke asked, sitting down at the dining room table next to Laura. Mac nodded and sat across from him, curious to see if he'd find anything in them.
Luke pulled them out and they looked them over, trying to make something out of them. Suddenly, Laura gasped and pointed to one of the x-rays. "Luke, do you see this?"
He looked and shrugged. "Yeah, but I can't read these things. What is it?"
"It's a filling," she said simply. Luke looked at her in disbelief, as the reality of it finally hit him.
"That means...." he began, looking at his wife in shock.
"That means this wasn't our son. Lucky's never had a cavity in his entire life!" she said as her tears began to fall.
