What Happened to Forever?

Chapters 79-80

~*~Chapter 79~*~

Elizabeth stirs, and Lucky smiles down at her. “Morning, Sunshine,” he whispers lovingly. Forgetting where she is, she smiles back at him for a moment, but quickly frowns as the previous night’s events come flooding back.

“Morning?” she asks frantically.

He smiles again. “You fell asleep, and I didn’t have the heart to wake you. You looked so beautiful and peacful laying there.”

She sits up quickly. “You let me sleep? Lucky, I can sleep forever once you’re...” she breaks off, a tear running down her face, then whispers, “I want to spend as much time with you as I can.”

He nods and pulls her back down next to him. “I know baby, but if it makes you feel any better, I think I slept too, so you didn’t miss much.”

She sighs. It feels so good to be here in his arms. She wishes she could just stay like this forever. “Where is your family?” she asks, noticing that they’re all alone.

He smiles. “I think they figured we’d want to be alone for a while. I guess technically, we’re on our honeymoon.”

She looks at him in shock. “Are you suggesting.....”

He shakes his head quickly. “No, I just meant that might be what they’re thinking. As much as I want to make love to you, this is just the wrong place. Anyway, they don’t know much about this poison, and I don’t want to take a chance that it could be transmitted to you.”

She smiles at how he’s always worried about her. “Yeah, well, to be honest, that doesn’t sound like such a bad idea, sort of a modern-day Romeo and Juliet.”

He sits up quickly, nearly knocking her off the bed. “No, Elizabeth! Don’t ever think that way. No matter what happens to me, you have to keep going. You have a full life ahead of you, and I won’t let you end it because of me!”

She tears up again. “But Lucky, don’t you see? You are my life! I was miserable the whole time I thought you were dead before. I don’t think I can bring myself to go through that again.”

He looks deep into her eyes and places his hand on either side of her face. “You can, and you will. So many people here love you. They will always be here for you, and they’ll need you to be there for them as well, so please, promise me that you won’t give up? Please?”

She sniffs and wipes her eyes. “That was a dirty trick, you know. I could never deny you anything, and you knew that! Okay, I promise,” she says sadly and hugs him. They lay there in silence for another hour, listening to the sound of each other’s heartbeats.

There’s a soft knock on the door and Luke cautiously pokes his head in. “Is it safe to come in?”

Lucky laughs softly. “It’s fine Dad.”

Luke smiles and enters the room. Laura follows with Nikolas and Emily. “We werne’t sure if you wanted any company or not.”

Lucky smiles. “Company’s great.”

“So how are my favorite newlyweds?” Luke asks, sitting down next to Lucky’s bed.

They smile at each other, and Lucky kisses her tenderly. “We’re good...as good as can be expected right now, at least.”

“Well, there’s no use moping around here all day, so why don’t we try to have a little fun?” Luke asks, trying to sound cherrful, as he pulls a deck of cards out of his pocket.

Lucky smiles. “That sounds good to me. How about you, baby?” he asks, looking at his new wife. She smiles bravely and nods her head.

The six of them spend the next few hours playing every card game they can think of. They’re laughing and having a great time, feeling like a family again, and almost forget where they are. Luke is shuffling for the next hand when Lucky gently touches his shoulder. He looks up into his son’s teary eyes.

“Thanks Dad,” he whispers.

Luke smiles warmly. “For what? Letting you win?”

Lucky smiles. “For knowing that I wouldn’t want everyone to just sit around and cry all day. If this is the way I’m going to go, I want the people I love to remember having fun like this, as a family.” He wraps his arm around Elizabeth and hugs her tightly.

“Well, if it’s fun you want, it’s fun you’ll get. What do say to some strip poker?” Luke asks, laughing.

Lucky and Nikolas look at each other in horror. Strip poker with their parents? “Uh, no offense Dad, but... ewww!” Nikolas nods in agreement, laughing.

Luke grins and shrugs. “Hey, it was just an idea. Maybe I’ll leave these cards and later you and Liz can have your own private game,” he says, wiggling his eyebrows.

“Dad!” Lucky yells, looking horrified. Liz can’t help laughing at his embarrassment. His dad certainly knew how to push his buttons.

Suddenly getting an idea, Luke stands up and hands the cards to Laura. “You deal this one, I have to go talk to Barbara about something. I’ll be right back.” He quikcly leaevs the room.

“What was taht all about?” Nikolas asks, looking at his mother.

She shrugs. “Your guess is as good as mine. He’s up to something, that’s for sure. You guys want to keep playing?”

They all nod, still looking at the door, wondering what Luke was up to now.

“Barbara, I need a favor,” Luke says, rushing up to the nurses’ station.

She looks at him nervously. “What is it, Luke? Is something wrong with Lucky?”

“No, he’s fine, well, you know what I mean. Anyway, I need to know if we can get him out of here for a while. There’s nothing wrong with him that he needs to be here for, and we’ll get him back before...well, you know.”

“I don’t know if that’s wise. I mean, we really aren’t sure what this drug is going to do to him.”

“I know that, but whatever it does, won’t be for another 15 hours or so. Would it really hurt him to be able to get out of here for a while?” he asked, his eyes pleading with her to agree.

“I guess not, but why do you want to take him out of here?”

“Well, if you had just married your true love, and were probably going to die in less than 24 hours, would you rather be cooped up in a smelly hospital room with people staring at you all the time, or would you want to be able to spend a few hours alone with them in a nice hotel room?”

“Ahh,” she said, finally realizing what he was getting at. “That’s sweet of you, Luke. Most parents wouldn’t do something like this for their child. It’s very mature of you.”

He grinned. “Yeah, well, in case you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m not like most parents! Now, would this thing be possible? Could I check him out of here for about 8 hours or so? They’ve been through so much, the least we could do is give them some semblance of a honeymoon.”

She smiled. “Of course. I think it’s a wonderful idea. I’ll call the hotel right now, and you go give him the news.”

“Thanks, baby sister. You’re the best!” he says before rushing back to Lucky’s room. He walks in quietly just as Elizabeth yells, “Gin!” She laughs and pokes Lukcy in the ribs. “Ha! I finally beat you!”

He smiles, happy to see them enjoying themselves. “Well, son, pack up your things. I’m busting you out of here!”

Eveyone looks at him curiously. “What are you talking about?” Lucky asks.

Luke grins. “I pulled some strings, and got you released for a while. You and the missus are going on a little honeymoon!” he announces, laughing at everyone’s shocked faces.

“Are you serious?” Lucky asks, not sure if his dad is joking.

“The honeymoon suite is already booked at the Port Charles Hotel, and a gourmet feast has been ordered. You will be spending the next 8 hours there with Elizabeth. No doctors, no nurses, no obnoxious family members. Just you and your new bride. That is, if you want to. I mean, you could always just stay here.”

“No!” they both yell quickly, smiling at each other. “Thank you, Dad,” Lucky says emotionally, getting out of the bed and hugging him tightly. “This is the best gift anyone could have given me today.”

“You’re welcome, son. I just want you to be happy,” Luke says, a tear running down his cheek.

~*~Chapter 80~*~

Lucky opens the door to the honeymoon suite and peers inside.

“Wow,” Elizabeth gushes. “It’s beautiful.”

He smiles at her and promptly picks he up and carries her over the threshold. She squeales and wrapps her arms tightly around his neck. He looks deeply into her eyes and kisses her passionatley, leaving them both breathless.

“Okay, you can put me down now, “ she whispers, giggling.

There’s a knock at the door. “Room service!” a voice yells.

Lucky smiles. “I guess that’s our gourmet feast!” He opens the door, and the man wheels in a cart and quickly leaves, not even waiting for a tip.

“Well, I guess we better see what this is,” Lucky says, lifting the cover off of one of the plates. He laughs when he sees what’s underneath.

“What is it?” Liz asks, coming up behind him, then laughs as well when she sees the “gourmet” food in front of them. “Your Dad doesn’t forget anything, does he?” she says, sitting down at the small table.

Lucky smiles. “I guess not. Only he would think to order ribs and cheese fries instead of some fancy French food!” They both laugh and begin to eat, their eyes never leaving each other.

“I feel like a mess,” Elizabeth says once they finish eating. “I’m going to go clean up.” She gets up and heads for the bathroom. Lucky quickly covers their plates and moves the table out of the way. He then dims the lights and turns on some soft music.

Elizabeth comes ot of the bathroom and smiles. “This is nice,” she says sitting next to him on the bed. He smiles at her and caresses her cheek.

“Let’s just try to forget everything for a while, okay? Let this be just like a normal honeymoon.” She nods, and he kisses her tenderly. “I love you so much,” he says, tears running down his face.

“Shh, don’t think about anything else, remember?” she whispers, kissing his tears away. “I want to make love to you, Lucky. I don’t care about the poison, I just want to be with you. This may be our only chance, and I don’t want to regret not doing it later.”

He smiles. “Actually, there’s good news about that. I stopped and asked my Aunt Bobbie before we left, and she said that it wasn’t in any way contagious, so it’s safe.”

“Really?” she asks, relieved that something is finally going their way. He nods and kisses her again, more passionately this time. She lays back on the bed, pulling him down on top of her. He pulls his head back for a moment and searches her eyes.

“Are you sure about this?” he asks tenderly. She smiles, tears in her eyes. “I’ve never been more sure about anything before. I love you, Lucky.” She kisses him deeply and begins to remove his shirt.

They continue to kiss, each one growing more passionate, their hands exploring each others’ bodies. He pulls back and looks into her eyes, making sure that he’s not scaring her. She smiles and kisses him again beofre whispering, “make love to me, Lucky.”

He kisses her tenderly as they move together, becoming one. When it’s over, he lays next to her, wiping away the tears that are pouring down her cheeks. “Are you okay?” he asks gently, worried that he hurt her.

She nods and smiles. “I’m perfect. That was... magical. I love you so much.” He kisses her again, and she snuggles up to him, laying her head on his shoulder. “I wish we could just stay like this forever,” she says sadly, her eyes tearing up again.

“Shh,” he whispers, stroking her hair. “Don’t think about that now, remember? We’ve still got a while before we have to worry about the real world again, so let’s just enjoy the time we have together, okay?”

“Okay,” she says quietly, tracing her finger along his bare chest. “So, what do you want to do until then?” she asks coyly.

He looks back at her and smiles, his eyes twinkling. “I don’t know, but I’m sure we’ll think of something.” He leans down and kisses her and they begin to make love again.

A few hours later, they lay in bed, their arms wrapped around each other. Liz sighs. “This was so wonderful. I can’t imagine a more perfect honeymoon.”

Lucky smiles at her and brushes a strand of hair out of her face. “You’re so beautiful. You’re practically glowing right now, you know that?”

She blushes. “I am? Oh God, what if everyone notices when we go back? I’ll be so embarrassed!”

He laughs. “I’m sorry to tell you this, but I’m pretty sure they all know why we’re here. Don’t be embarrassed. We are married, you know!”

She smilles, “Yeah, we are, aren’t we? I’m finally Elizabeth Spencer. You know, it doesn’t even sound strange to me. It’s like that was always meant to be my name. Does that sound silly?”

He shakes his head. “No, it sounds wonderful. I love you, Mrs. Spencer,” he says, kissing her nose.

She giggles. “I love you too, Mr. Spencer,” she says, kissing him on the mouth. Just as their kiss starts to deepen, the phone rings. Lucky groans and reluctantly answers it.

“Yeah?”

Luke chuckles. “Sorry to disturb you, son, but you better start getting ready to come back. It’s been 8 hours.”

“Already?” Lucky asks, looking at the clock next to the bed. It felt like they had just gotten there. “Okay, we’ll be down in a few minutes.” He hangs up and turns to Elizabeth. “I’m sorry, baby, but it looks like they miss me too much at GH and they want us to come back.”

She nods sadly, trying to control her emotions. She starts to get out of bed, but he pulls her back for another kiss. She wraps her arms around him tightly, never wanting to let go. He pulls back and wipes a tear from her cheek. “We should get dressed now, before my dad comes up here to get us.” She smiles and gets up.

A few minutes later, they leave the room, taking one last look at it before closing the door. They look at each other sadly, thinking that this would be the last place that they were truly happy, and then slowly make their way to the elevator.
