Chapter 9
They avoided each other the rest of the day, which was fine with Elizabeth. She was getting to know some of the other girls in her classes, and finally felt like maybe this place wouldn't be so bad.
Lucky was out in the parking lot, waiting for Elizabeth. She was late, and he was starting to get the feeling that it was becoming a habit of hers.
"Lucky!" He turned and saw Nikolas waving at him from his Jaguar. Lucky went over to say hello to him.
"What are you doing here? Slumming it again?" Lucky loved to tease his brother about his "royal" upbringing.
Nikolas rolled his eyes. "I'm picking up Emily. I guess she got out of class late again. How come you're standing around out here?"
"Oh, I'm waiting for someone. We've got a group project in one of my classes and we're working on part of it after school."
Elizabeth came out of the school, squinting at the sudden light. She looked around for Lucky, but didn't see him anywhere. "I swear, if he left me here....Wait a second, who's the hottie?" She walked over to get a closer look, and was surprised to see Lucky standing with the guy she had just spotted. Maybe he could be useful after all...
"Lucky, there you are!" she said, striding over to them. 'A Jaguar, nice' she thought, looking at the guy's car. "Hey, nice car." She looked at Lucky, waiting for him to introduce her.
"Thanks," Nikolas said, looking at his brother. He never mentioned this girl before.
Liz looked at Lucky again, but he just stood there. 'Figures he'd be rude enough to make me introduce myself' She stuck out her hand. "I'm Elizabeth Webber, nice to meet you," she said sweetly before glaring at Lucky again.
"Nikolas Cassidine, charmed to make your acquaintance," Nikolas said. He bowed slightly and kissed her hand, the way he had been taught. He smiled. She seemed nice, and she was definitely pretty. Maybe there was hope for Lucky after all.
Elizabeth giggled. No one had ever greeted her like that before Lucky rolled his eyes..
Nikolas looked at Lucky, then back to Elizabeth. "So, how do you know my brother?"
She hadn't made the connection when he introduced himself because she had been so flustered, but now she remembered his name. She decided to play dumb anyway. "Your brother? You're kidding right? You two are nothing alike!" She looked at Lucky, waiting to see his reaction. He looked angry, and she knew her little stab had worked.
Nikolas chuckled. "We have the same mother, yes, but we weren't raised together. He takes after his dad," he said, nudging Lucky to indicate that he was kidding around.
"Thanks man. That's a compliment, coming from you," Lucky said, trying to hide his irritation.
Nikolas turned back to her. "So, how do you two know each other?"
"Oh, yeah, you asked that before, didn't you?" Liz said. "We're working on a school project together, unfortunately." She glared at Lucky again
"Don't worry, the feeling is mutual." Lucky thought he was going to be sick to his stomach, the way she was flirting with Nikolas. He looked up and grinned. Things were about to turn in his favor.
"Nikolas! Lucky!" Emily shouted, jogging across the parking lot. She ran up to Nikolas and gave him a big kiss.
'So much for that!' Liz thought. 'I should have known he's be taken.'
Emily skipped over to Lucky and hugged him. "I haven't seen you around much, where have you been?"
Liz stood back and watched them, trying to ignore the pang of jealousy she felt.
"Yeah, I know, Em. I've been working on a big project. How are the Q's?"
She rolled her eyes. "I swear, sometimes I wish I could run away. That house is so crazy. Grandfather's always screaming about something, and Jax and Chloe just announced their engagement, so you can imagine what it's like!" She sighed, then noticed Elizabeth standing there. "Omigosh! I didn't even realize someone else was standing here!" She smiled and extended her hand. "I'm Emily."
"Elizabeth." She shook Emily's hand and smiled back, not sure if she liked this girl or not.
"Did you just move here?" Emily asked, curious about the girl. Liz nodded.
"She's Audrey Hardy's granddaughter." Lucky said, tired of standing around. He wanted to get this church thing over with.
Emily smiled. "Well, welcome to Port Charles! We'll have to get together sometime. I'll show you all the cool places to shop!"
Liz smiled. This girl had way too much energy. "Sure, sounds like fun." She turned to Lucky. "I guess we should get going." As much as she didn't want to go with him, she also didn't want to stand here any longer. Lucky nodded, and they said goodbye to Nikolas and Emily.
"You didn't tell me your brother was so hot!" she said, once they were out of earshot. "But what's he doing going out with her?"
Lucky frowned. "Emily is a really sweet person, not that you would know what that was. She's one of my best friends, so please don't insult her."
She could see she hit a nerve. "I just meant that she seems kind of young for him."
He shrugged. "They're only a few years apart."
They got in his car and headed out to the church in silence, both thinking about what happened in the parking lot. Lucky couldn't stop thinking about the way Liz had been drooling over Nikolas, and Liz was trying to get the picture of Emily hugging Lucky out of her head.
