Chapter 35

"I can't believe we're finished a week early!" Liz said, sitting back in her chair in triumph.

Lucky grinned. "I know. Now we have a whole week to ourselves, no project to think about!"

"Yeah, that will definitely be a nice break. Sometimes I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not really going to have a baby! This stuff is just too realistic!"

He laughed. "Me too. I'll see a toy at the store and think that it would be cute for the baby. If my dad ever knew that...." He shook his head, not wanting to this about that particular scenario.

"I don't even flinch anymore when Ms. Kraft calls me Mrs. Spencer! It's kind of scaring me," Liz said, shuddering.

"It doesn't sound strange to me anymore, either. Man, this project is probably going to warp us for life! I wonder if we can sue later if we're unable to maintain a happy marriage later in life?"

"I'd like to see you try," Liz said, laughing. "Anyway, I'm sure if your marriages fail, Ms. Kraft won't be the only reason!"

"Hey, what was that supposed to mean?" he asked defensively.

"Nothing, just teasing." She smiled and continued to eat her lunch, trying to decide what to do with her weekend. "You know, I think this is the first Friday night I've had off since I started working at Kelly's."

"If you're bored, you should come to my dad's club. Ned Ashton is playing, and he doesn't do that very often!" Lucky suggested, taking a bite of his pizza.

"Ned... Is that the guy that we said was going to sing at our wedding reception?"

"Yeah. He's pretty good. You should go."

"Maybe. Is he hot?" she asked, grinning.

Lucky rolled his eyes. "Elizabeth, he's probably old enough to be your father! Anyway, he's with Alexis Davis, remember?"

"How am I supposed to remember every little thing you tell me? Anyway, it's not like I would have gone after him. I was just curious if he was good-looking, that's all. I have a weakness for guys who can sing."

"Oh, really? You better stay away from me then!" he joked.

"Why?"

"I sing."

"You do not!" she said, thinking that he was kidding.

"I do too! Just because you haven't heard me doesn't mean I don't sing. I just don't choose to sing for other people."

"Right, just like you don't play your guitar for anyone," she teased.

"Well, the two kind of go together. Anyway, since when are you one to criticize? If I remember correctly, you also have a hobby that you don't share with anyone else!"

She shrugged. "So?" He had a point, and she hated him for it.

Knowing he had won that argument, Lucky sat back and grinned. "You just hate it when I'm right, don't you?"

Liz rolled her eyes and snorted in disgust. "I wouldn't know, it hasn't happened yet."

"Go ahead and try to deny it, but I'm right this time, and you can't stand it."

"Whatever," she said, as the bell rang. Heaving a quiet sigh of relief, she stood up and carried her lunch tray over to the trash cans. "I'll think about going tonight. It I do, I guess I'll see you there."

"Of course you'll be there, what else do you have to do?" he asked jokingly, and she turned around and glared at him. "Oh, sorry. I didn't mean it like that."

"Sure you didn't," she muttered sarcastically and rushed off to her next class.

"Damn it, Spencer, you're as bad as your father. You pushed it too far again, and now she's probably not going to speak to you for the next week!" he said to himself as he left the lunchroom.

Elizabeth sat in her room, staring up at the ceiling. She was bored out of her mind. Audrey was at the hospital again, and as much as she hated to admit it, Lucky was right. She didn't have anything better to do. She was dying to go to Luke's, but couldn't stand the thought of him gloating all night about how right he was.

She stood up and began pacing around her bed. There had to be something else to on a Friday night! She sighed and looked out the window. After staring at the trees for a few minutes she decided to go to Luke's. She wasn't going to let Lucky stop her from having fun!

She dug around in her closet for something to wear, wondering what the dress code at Luke's on a Friday night was. After looking at every outfit she owned, she finally settled on one of her favorite dresses. It was purple and form-fitting, and it fit her perfectly. She got dressed and went into the bathroom to fix her makeup. When she was done, she twirled around in front of the mirror and smiled at her reflection. If that didn't turn everyone's heads, nothing would!

"So, is the missus coming tonight?" Luke asked slyly as Lucky sat down at the bar.

He rolled his eyes, choosing to ignore the question.

"Oh, come on Cowboy, I'm just playing with ya. I just thought you might have invited her, that's all."

"I did, but then I insulted her, so I doubt she'll show up," Lucky said, watching Ned's bandmates set up on stage.

"You insulted her? How?"

"I said she didn't have anything better to do tonight. She doesn't really like to be reminded that she hasn't made any friends yet. I mean, I'm sure she has friends here, just none she hangs out with."

"Well, that's not true. She has you, doesn't she?" Luke asked.

Lucky shot him an evil look, and Luke immediately defended himself. "Hey, that one was innocent, I swear. You can't tell me that after months of being joined at the hip with her, you haven't at least become friends?"

Lucky shrugged. "I guess so, but most of the time we just fight. We get on each other's nerves way too easily."

"That's to be expected when you spend so much time together, you know. You probably won't want to hear this, but you two act like you're married more than your mother and I do sometimes!"

Lucky rolled his eyes again and stood up. "You're right, I didn't want to hear that. If you don't mind, I'm going to join Nikolas and Emily. I think it's their turn to taunt me for a while." He walked away from the bar as Luke laughed.

"Hey guys," Lucky greeted, sitting down across from Emily. "Nikolas, I never expected to see you at a rock concert! I thought you Cassidines only went to operas!"

"You're very funny, little brother. If you must know, Emily asked me to come along, and since I just can't seem to refuse her anything, here I am." He looked affectionately at her and she smiled. Lucky, on the other hand, looked as if he was going to throw up.

"So, where's your other half?" Emily teased. She knew he'd get mad, but it was just oh so much fun.

"Did you and my dad get together before this or something? Why does everyone think that Elizabeth goes everywhere I go? It's Friday night and our assignment is done, so we have no need to see each other until Halloween."

"Why Halloween?" Nikolas asked, trying not to smile.

'Damn, walked right into that one!' Lucky thought, as he nervously ran his fingers through his hair. "Oh, I invited her to help me take LuLu trick-or-treating."

"Ahhh," Nikolas said, knowing that if he said anything else, Lucky would probably kill him.

"Speak of the devil," Emily said with a smile, nodding towards the front of the club. Nikolas and Lucky both turned to see what she was talking about. Liz had just walked in, and Lucky's jaw nearly hit the floor when he saw her. She was wearing a very tight-fitting dress, and she looked amazing. Nikolas chuckled when he was Lucky's reaction.

Liz spotted her friends, and waved as she approached the table. She silently congratulated herself for her wardrobe choice when she saw the look on Lucky's face. If he was that affected by it, then it must really look good!

She grabbed an empty chair and sat down next to Lucky. Deciding to mess with him a little more, she leaned over and smiled at him. "Hi, honey. Did you miss me?" she cooed, giggling at the expression on his face.

Luke was watching the entire exchange from the bar, and was beside himself with laughter. "Whoo boy, is he a goner!" he said to himself, shaking his head. "Get out your wallet Laura, cause I think I smell payday comin'!"
