Chapter 86

Luke sighed and looked over at the phone. It was ringing, but he wasn’t in the mood to answer it, and no one else was home. After a few more rings the answering machine picked up. He listened to his voice as the outgoing message stared.

“Either we’re not here or we don’t want to talk to you. Leave a message and we’ll call you back if we feel like it.”

*beep*

“Luke, it’s Charisma, I thought you’d-”

He quickly grabbed the phone. “Hey partner, I’m here. Sorry about that. What’s going on? It’s Sunday, why haven’t you called sooner? I’m dying here!” he rattled excitedly. He had been waiting for days to get a report from her about the tour, but until now, she hadn’t called.

“Sorry about that, but I have to be with Spence most of the time, and it’s hard to get to a phone without him getting suspicious. He’s busy getting ready for an interview right now, so I have a few minutes free.”

“So, what’s going on? Are they in love yet?” he asked, grinning.

“Oh, well, I’m sure they are, but they won’t admit it yet. Still, I think they’re starting to slip a little. It’s obvious Liz is jealous of all of his fans constantly fawning all over him, and the other day, he caught one of his band members flirting with her and yelled at him a little too much to be fake.”

Luke laughed. “Nothing like the green-eyed monster to shake things up a bit, huh?”

“Exactly. They’re sharing his bedroom in the bus, and from what I’ve seen, they’re pretty comfortable in it. She spends most of the time by herself on it while he’s out doing his publicity stuff, but that’s really all she can do. He’s been making sure to spend all of his free time with her, although it could just be part of their little act, I’m not sure.”

“He’s really busy, huh? When are those awards again?”

“Wednesday. Oh, he’ll be on Letterman Tuesday night, so keep an eye out for that. I’m sure he’ll ask all about Liz, and I’m pretty sure she’ll be in the audience for that one, so they might show her. Also, I managed to convince her to go along with him today to his Rolling Stone interview. I’m hoping they’ll get her in some of the pictures.”

“You’re a woman after my own heart, you know that?” he asked with a laugh.

“Thanks. I also just booked a hometown show for him as the last night of the tour. I knew he wouldn’t want to play at your club again, after what happened last time, so I went with The Outback. I figure by then, they’ll probably both be missing each other so much, it’ll be good to make sure they’re in public.”

“Very good. You know, if I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were a true Spencer. You can scheme with the best of us any day!”

“I try,” she chuckled. “Anyway, I better go. We have to get to that interview. I’ll try to call in a few days with more. Don’t forget to watch the awards!”

“Oh trust me, nothing is going to drag me away from my TV that night! Keep it up over there, I can tell you’re breaking them down.”

“Bye, Luke!” Charisma hung up and hurried back to the bus to see if they were ready yet. Lucky was sitting in the living room, flipping through a magazine.

“Spence, you guys ready?”

“Talk to Elizabeth, she’s still in the bathroom,” he grumbled. “What is it with you women, anyway? It shouldn’t take that long to get dressed!”

“I’ll see what’s keeping her,” she said, hurrying to the back of the bus. She knocked lightly on the door. “Liz? Are you about ready? We need to leave soon.”

The door opened and Liz stepped out, smiling sheepishly. “Sorry, I’ve never been to something like this before, I wasn’t sure what to wear.”

Charisma looked at her, smiling at the obvious care she took in getting ready. She was wearing a black skirt and a red half-sweater that exposed her stomach. It was a very flattering outfit, and she had done her hair and makeup perfectly.

“You look great, Liz. Come on, Lucky’s getting anxious out there.”

She nodded and followed her out to the living room, smiling as Lucky turned to look at them, his jaw dropping when he saw her. He had seen her dressed up before, but there was something incredibly sexy about the outfit she was wearing, and it was severely clouding his mental processes.

“Okay, Spence, stop gawking at your wife and get up. We can’t be late for this,” Charisma teased, amused by his reaction. Liz giggled and followed her off of the bus, turning to look behind her at Lucky, who hadn’t moved.

“Lucky? Are you coming?” she asked sweetly, stifling a laugh.

“Um, yeah, right,” he muttered, jumping to his feet. They quickly climbed into the waiting limousine and sped off to the photo shoot. They were in Virginia today, and the magazine wanted to do the shoot outside at an old estate. After a short drive, they arrived and headed for the area that was set up for the shoot. Liz hung behind, not sure what to do with herself, not wanting to get in the way.

“Lucky, thank you so much for doing this!” the interviewer greeted excitedly, shaking his hand. “My name is Shawn. I know how busy you are, so we all really appreciate you taking the time for us.”

“No problem,” he answered coolly, sitting in the chair that had been placed there for him. The hair and makeup people immediately began working on him for the photo session, which the interviewer starting asking questions. He started with basic ones about the tour, about his album, and then moved on to the topic everyone had been wanting to know about: his marriage.

“So, news is you’ve just gotten married,” he said casually, pen poised over his notepad, while his tape recorder whirred quietly, recording everything.

Lucky smiled and looked over at Liz, who was standing beside Charisma, watching the whole interview in amazement. She couldn’t believe how calm he was, sitting there with all those people messing with his hair and answering Shawn’s questions so smoothly.

“Yes, I did. In fact, my new bride is with me today. She’s over there with my manager.” He pointed to Liz and smiled, knowing she would kill him later.

“You mean, that gorgeous woman over there is your wife?” he asked, a wide grin spreading across his face as an idea began to form in his head. “What’s her name?”

“Elizabeth....everyone else calls her Liz, though,” he answered, seeing the gears churning inside Shawn’s head. Oh yes, she was definitely going to kill him.
