Chapter 9

Liz had wanted to see the park during the day, so Alexis had joined her for a leisurely walk after they left the hotel. They talked a little more about witchcraft, since there were very few people around

They got to the fountain and sat down, taking in the beautiful scenery. “Hey, watch this,” Alexis said, nodding at the fountain.

Liz smiled and waited to see what she was going to do. A few seconds later, a quarter floated out of the water and hovered in the air. “Cool! I wish I could do that!”

Alexis chuckled and let the coin plop back into the water. “I can’t do it with people or anything too big, but it comes in handy when I drop a glass. I never break my dishes!”

They both laughed, happy to have another person to confide in. Alexis turned to Liz. “Were you really serious earlier about changing your name?”

“Yeah, I was.”

“Well, if you’d like, I can get the paperwork started this afternoon. Consider it one of the perks having a mother who’s also a lawyer. And a Cassidine,” she added with a smirk.

“What does being a Cassidine have to do with it? I thought you hated being one!”

“True, being in this family is usually a hindrance more often than it is an asset, but in this case, it could actually help move things along more quickly.”

Liz chuckled and nodded. “When you put it that way... Actually, yeah, I would like to get this done soon. I’ve already decided to go by Elizabeth Davis, might as well make it legal right away.”

“Great,” Alexis said, standing up. “I have to go to the courthouse anyway, so I’ll get it started today. What are you going to do with the rest of your afternoon?”

“Well, I figured I should go find a job. I passed this cute little diner last night while I was walking and thought I’d check it out.”

“That’s good. I better get going. I’ll see you later?” Alexis asked as they walked out of the park.

“Definitely. And thanks again, for everything,” Liz said warmly, giving her mother a hug.

“Any time,” Alexis said, hugging her back. “We’ll have to do this again soon.”

They parted, Alexis heading for the courthouse, and Liz walking to Kelly’s.

Liz went to open the front door and smiled when she saw the “Come In - We’re Open” sign, remembering the previous night. She took a deep breath and went inside, heading straight for the counter.

There was a red-haired woman standing there, watching at her as she approached. The customer sitting on one of the barstools turned around to look at her and smiled.

Liz laughed. “Didn’t you just eat?”

“I did, but that’s not why I’m here. My family runs this place, I was just saying hi to my aunt,” Lucky said, nodding at the redhead. “Aunt Bobbie, this is Elizabeth Webber.”

“Davis. It’s Elizabeth Davis now,” she corrected, shaking the woman’s hand.

Bobbie looked at her strangely. “Aren’t you a little young to be married already?”

Liz laughed and shook her head. “I’m not. Davis is my birth mother’s name, and I’ve recently decided to change it.”

“Davis... you don’t mean...”

“Yep, Alexis is her mom, do believe that?” Lucky said with a chuckle. He turned to Liz. “So what brings you here? As you said earlier, you just ate, didn’t you?”

“I’m not here to eat either, I was actually looking for a job, but since this is a Spencer-run establishment, and I’m a Cassidine, I don’t suppose that would be a possibility, now would it?” she said sarcastically, smiling so he would know she was only joking.

Lucky chuckled. “Well, normally that would be true, but my aunt has a soft spot for Cassidines She even married one once!”

Liz looked at Bobbie strangely, causing her to laugh. “He’s right, I was married to Stefan for a short while. I guess that means I was your aunt once.”

“How many different ways are we going to be related?” Liz asked jokingly, looking at Lucky.

He smiled and shook his head. “You’re right. We’ve got the same aunt, sort of, and my half-brother is your cousin. Oh, and you probably didn’t know this, but your adoptive parents are my mom’s aunt and uncle! Well, adoptive aunt and uncle.”

“Huh? You’ve lost me now,” Liz said, trying to digest the information.

“See, my grandmother was married to Rick Webber, your uncle, and he adopted my mom. So, your adoptive parents are her aunt and uncle,” he explained, proud of himself for being able to piece it all together.

She shook her head. “Well, it’s too bad we don’t live in the South, or else we’d be married by now!”

“Not necessarily, since none of those relations are by blood,” Lucky said, laughing.

Bobbie sighed. “Now you two are just getting silly. Elizabeth, if you are still looking for a job, and are willing to work for the enemy, we’d love to have you here. Do you have any experience?”

Liz giggled at the enemy comment and nodded. “Yeah, I did some waitressing during high school.”

“Great, then how would you like to start today? We’re kind of short-handed.”

Liz nodded and took the apron Bobbie was handing her. “Thanks.”

Lucky stood up and smiled at them. “Well, since you’ve found some help, I guess you don’t need me anymore. I’ll see you around, Elizabeth. Bye, Aunt Bobbie.”

“Bye, Lucky, say hi to your dad for me,” Bobbie said, waving at him as he left. She turned to say something to Liz, but stopped when she saw the way she was still watching Lucky, a small smile playing on her lips, her eyes dancing. It looked like Miss Davis had a crush on her nephew!

“Hey Dad, Aunt Bobbie says hi,” Lucky greeted as he entered the house.

“How was your day?” Luke asked.

“Pretty good. I saw Elizabeth again, and you’ll never believe what I found out!”

Luke raised an eyebrow. This sounded interesting. “I’m waiting, lay it on me.”

“Well, your theory about Webber women won’t work with her, because it turns out she isn’t really a Webber. She’s adopted.”

Luke shrugged. “So was your mom, what’s your point?”

“I’m getting there, give me a minute,” Lucky answered, pausing for effect. “Get this, her real mother is Alexis Davis.”

Luke stared at him for a moment, letting the implications sink in, then burst out laughing. “So you’re telling me the lovely girl you met last night is really a blood-sucker?”

Lucky glared at him. “She’s not a blood-sucker, she’s a Cassidine.”

“Same difference, Cowboy. A rose by any other name and all that. So, what are you going to do?”

“Why would I do anything? Aunt Bobbie hired her to work at Kelly’s today, so I’ll probably see her around a lot. It’s not like she was raised by them or anything, and she’s Alexis’s, so what’s the big deal? You like Alexis, right?”

Luke nodded. “Sure, Natasha’s all right, for a Cassidine. Look, I won’t go all Romeo & Juliet on you or anything, so don’t worry. If you like the girl, go for it. Far be it for me to stand in the way of true love.”

“True love? I just met the girl, dad!” Lucky said, shooting him an annoyed look.

“I know, but she’s a Webber, an adopted one, sure, but a Webber, and like I said before, us Spencers can’t resist them!”
