Chapter 37
The Spencers and Nikolas walked into the hall where the wedding was going to take place and stared in awe.
“Wow, this place is gorgeous,” Laura gasped.
“I should have known it wouldn’t be a church,” Luke said with a laugh. “After all, when’s the last time you saw a Cassidine n a church?”
“Luke...” Laura warned, but he was on a roll.
“See, it just reinforces my claims that there’s nothing natural about that family!”
Nikolas sighed and started to walk away. “I see my father already, thanks for the ride, but I’m going to go join him now.”
Luke slapped him on the back and grinned. “What’s wrong, Nikky? Didn’t you see it coming? I mean, I thought you always knew what I was going to say before I could get a word out?”
Nikolas shook his head. “No, Luke, I try to avoid reading your mind as much as possible. It’s too scary.” He walked away, heading over to where Stefan was sitting while Luke chuckled to himself.
“Come on, let’s find a seat,” Laura said, ushering the rest of her family down the aisle. “I think it’s going to start soon.”

“Nervous?” Liz asked, adjusting Alexis’s veil.
“Yeah, but I don’t know if it’s because I’m marrying Ned, or because Luke’s going to be in the same room!” she replied with a shaky laugh.
“Oh, come on, he’s not that bad! Anyway, I’m sure Laura will keep him in line. Now will you stop worrying about Luke Spencer, and start thinking about your wedding?”
Alexis looked down at her and smiles. “Honey, the first rule of being a Cassidine: never stop worrying about Luke Spencer! It’s suicide.”
Liz throws her hands up in the air and takes her place. “I give up. Come on, the music’s starting. You ready?”
“As ready as I’ll ever be,” she sighed, adjusting the bouquet in her hands and taking a deep breath. “Okay, let’s do this.”
The doors opened and the wedding party began to make their way down the aisle. Liz glanced back at her mother one last time and smiled before stepping forward. She walked down the aisle and took her place at the front. Finally, Alexis appeared in the doorway, and Ned’s face broke out in a huge smile. Liz searched the room for Lucky as she waited, not sure which side his family would be sitting on.
Alexis’s voice broke into her thoughts. Fourth row on the right, near the middle.
How did you know that’s what I was doing?
Lucky guess.
Yeah, right. Anyway, how did you find them so fast?
Second rule of being a Cassidine: always know where your enemies are.
Even during your wedding?
Especially during your wedding!
They both smiled as Alexis reached the front of the room and took her place next to Ned. Liz glanced over at Lucky and found him watching her. She smiled shyly, then turned around to take the bouquet from Alexis.

Lucky watched anxiously as the wedding party slowly made their way down the aisle. Finally, Elizabeth appeared in the doorway. She looked beautiful, like a goddess. He watched her make her way to the front of the room, mesmerized by her. Even when Alexis came into the hall and started to walk down the aisle, he was still staring at Liz. Thankfully, she was too busy watching her mother to notice. Once everyone was in place, she slowly scanned the room, her gaze resting on him for a moment. She smiled at him, causing his heart to leap up in his chest, then turned around so the ceremony could begin.
I thought it was customary to watch the bride during a wedding, not the maid of honor.
Lucky turned to see his mother smiling at him and blushed. Was I that obvious?
Only to me, and maybe your father.
Great, just what I need, another reason for him to tease me!
“Will you two stop that!” Luke hissed, looking over at his wife and son. Over the years, he had gotten pretty good at telling when his family was communicating with one another, and it drove him nuts. They both snickered quietly and sat back in their seats guiltily. Lucky stole one last glance at Liz, then turned his attention to the bride and groom.
The priest had already begun. “Do you, Alexis C. Davidovich, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, to love and to cherish, for good times and bad, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, from this day forward, until death do you part?”
Alexis smiled warmly. “I do.”
“And do you, Edward Lawrence Ashton, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, to love and to cherish, for good times and bad, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, from this day forward, until death do you part?”
Ned returned her smile, his face glowing. “I do.”
“The rings please?” the priest asked. Jax stepped forward and handed Ned a ring, while Liz did the same to Alexis.
“Repeat after me: with this ring, I thee wed.”
Alexis slid the ring on Ned’s finger and squeezed his hand. “With this ring, I thee wed.”
Ned grinned and did the same. “With this ring, I thee wed.”
“If anyone here has reason why these two should not be married, speak now or forever hold your peace.”
Alexis looked over at Stefan, than at Luke, praying the two men would remain silent, which they thankfully did.
“Thank by the power vested in me, by the state of New York, I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
Ned flipped the veil over Alexis’s head and leaned in to kiss her while everyone applauded. Liz looked around the room, grinning at how beautiful the whole ceremony had been. Her eyes fell on Lucky, who was once again looking at her, and she smiled. He looked so good in that suit, she wasn’t sure how much longer she could keep up their ‘friendship only’ agreement. She sighed and started down the aisle, deciding to focus on her mother for the time being. Once they were all outside, the limo pulled up for Alexis and Ned, and they began to get in.
Good luck! Liz “called out” before the door closed.
Alexis smiled at her through the window. Thanks, I’m going to need it!
Liz chuckled and turned around, finding herself face-to-face with Lucky. “Hey,’ she said, smiling at her good fortune.
“You look beautiful, Elizabeth,” Lucky said softly. She blushed and looked down at her dress..
“Thanks. So do you. I mean, you look very...handsome.” She cleared her throat, trying to mask her sudden awkwardness around him. “Um, so did your dad behave himself in there?”
Lucky chuckled. “Yeah, but knowing him, he’s saving it all for the reception.”
~*~
Once the limo started to move, Alexis turned to Ned and smiled shakily. “Honey? I have something to tell you, and I wanted to do it while we were alone, before we get to the reception.”
“What is it?” Ned asked, worried.
Alexis sighed. “Well, there’s no easy way to do this, so I’m just going to come right out with it.” She looked up and met his eyes, praying he would accept her news. “Ned, I’m a witch.”
