Chapter 15

“They’re here, Elizabeth!” Audrey shouted up the stairs. Liz hurried down, putting on her earrings.

“Is it another limo?” she asked excitedly.

“Of course. You look absolutely beautiful, dear!”

She smiled, hoping that Lucky would think the same thing. “Thanks Gram. I better go. I’ll see you later!” She rushed out the door and out to the limo, where the driver was holding the door open. She ducked inside and smiled.

“Hi Alexis, Ned’s not here again?”

She laughed. “He’s already at the house. You look gorgeous!”

“Thanks, so do you. I’ve never had to get this dressed up for dinner before!”

“Well, the Quartermaines like to go overboard on this kind of stuff. You’ll get used to it.”

“So, what do you think they’ll say when they find out I’m your daughter?” she asked nervously.

Alexis thought for a moment and laughed. “Edward will probably make some snide comment about another Cassidine, but they’ll tell him to shut up. I’m sure they’ll love you. I’m more worried about what they’ll say when we tell them we’re getting married!”

“From what I’ve heard, you and Ned have been together for a long time. They probably won’t be surprised at all,” she answered as the limo pulled into Lucky’s driveway. She looked out the window and smiled anxiously.

Alexis saw how nervous she suddenly was and grinned. “So, I take it Lucky agreed to play this as a date?”

Liz turned back to her and nodded. “Yeah, I just hope we’re believable. I mean, we hardly know each other, and we’re only friends, so looking like we’re dating could be a challenge.” She turned back to the window as Lucky came out of the house.

Alexis smiled at how her daughter’s face lit up when she saw him. “Oh, I don’t think you’ll have a problem,” she chuckled.

Laura stood at the bottom of the stairs, looking up towards Lucky’s room. “Honey, they’re going to be here any minute! What’s taking you so long?”

“I’ll be right down, Mom! I hate wearing these clothes!” He came out of his room and stood at the top of the stairs. “Well? Do I look okay?”

She smiled. “You look fine. Very handsome. Now hurry up, I think I just heard them pull into the driveway.” She hurried to the window and looked outside. “That’s them.” She turned back to him and reached up to straighten his tie. “Have fun, okay?”

“Mom, I’ll be at the Quartermaines. I don’t know if that’s possible!”

She laughed. “True, but you’ll be with Liz, and even if you won’t admit it to me, I know you like her.”

Lucky blushed and turned to the door. “Good night, Mom.” He opened the door and hurried outside, embarrassed that she could read him so well. As he approached the car, the driver got out and opened the door. He ducked inside nodding to Alexis in greeting, then turning to Liz. For a moment, he couldn’t breathe. She looked like a goddess, like an angel. She smiled and moved over so he could sit down.

“Hi,” he said, not sure if he could say anything else.

Liz swallowed, unable to believe how gorgeous he looked. “Hi.” She turned back to Alexis, hoping he wouldn’t notice that she was blushing.

Alexis chuckled at the tension that suddenly filled the car between the two teenagers. They spent the rest of the ride in silence, neither knowing what to say, as Alexis watched in amusement.

Finally, the car pulled up in front of the mansion. Alexis climbed out first and hurried to the front door to see if Ned was waiting for her. Lucky climbed out next, then turned and offered his hand to Liz. She smiled and took it, carefully exiting the car. Once they were out, she smoothed her dress and smiled at him. “Okay, here we go. I hope we can pull this off.”

He smiled back, still holding her hand. “The only person I’m worried about convincing is Emily.”

“You mean you didn’t tell her?” Liz asked in shock. Lucky shook his head as they walked up the steps to the front door. She looked up at the house and gasped. “Wow, this place is huge!”

He chuckled. “Yeah, I guess so. I must just be used to it by now. Emily and I used to hang out here all the time when we were younger. You ready?” he asked, ringing the doorbell. Alexis had already gone inside with Ned.

Reginald opened the door and smiled. “Hello, Mr. Spencer. It’s good to see you again.”

“You too Reginald. This is Elizabeth Davis,” he said, motioning to Liz. Reginald smiled.

“Davis? You mean..”

“Yes, I’m Alexis’s daughter.” She couldn’t help laughing at the shocked expression on his face. This was definitely going to be an interesting evening!

“Lucky!” Emily shouted from the doorway to the den. “What are you doing here?”

He smiled at Liz. “You ready to do this?” She nodded, and they both walked over to Emily.

“Hey, Em. I’m here with Elizabeth,” he explained, hugging his friend quickly.

“Hi, Emily,” Liz said.

“But, I thought you were here with Alexis?” she asked Liz, confused.

“I am, but Alexis is with Ned, so...”

Suddenly, it dawned on her. “Ohhh.... I get it. You’re on a date?” she asked, looking curiously at Lucky. He had never said anything about liking Liz before.

Lucky smiled and put his arm around Liz’s waist. “Yep.” He looked down at her and smiled, hoping he hadn’t stepped over the line by holding her like that. She smiled back, trying to keep her heart from jumping out of her chest, it was beating so hard.

Emily just smiled at them and shook her head. “Well, if I knew we could bring dates to this, I would have asked Nikolas! Why didn’t you tell me?”

Lucky grinned. “Maybe I needed a break from him. I swear, I don’t know how you can spend so much time with him and not go crazy!” He laughed and led Liz over to where Alexis and Ned were standing, knowing she would want to say hello to them, and tired of Emily’s questioning. Once they were a safe distance from her, he his arm drop from her waist.

“Was that too much?” he asked.

Trying to hide her disappointment, she shook her head. “No, it was fine. I think she bought it.”

Lucky grinned. “Good, then the rest of the evening should be a snap.”

Alexis and Ned watched the two from a few feet away. Ned leaned in to her and whispered, “I thought you said they were supposed to be pretending to be on a date?”

She chuckled. “They are, but they’re doing a very realistic job, don’t you think?”

“Very realistic. They even fooled Emily, and she’s not easy to put one over on!”

“Something tells me that this little charade is going to turn into the real thing. A Cassidine and a Spencer...who would have thought?”

Ned laughed. “And we thought a Cassidine and a Quartermaine was bad!”

She turned and kissed him quickly. “I don’t know, Spencers hate us much more than your family does! Lucky for her, Luke actually likes me. He never says it, but I can tell.”

“Hmm, should I be worried?”

She laughed and shook her head. “Oh trust me, you have nothing to worry about when it comes to Luke Spencer! I’m all yours.”

He kissed her again and waved Lucky and Liz over to them. “Come on, I think dinner’s about to start.”
