Chapter 13
“Cowboy, what’s up with you tonight?” Luke asked as Lucky wandered past him for the umpteenth time. “You’ve been pacing around this room all night!”
He sighed and sat down. “I’m just really bored, that’s all. There’s nothing to do around here.
“What, no one’s around to hang out with?”
He shook his head. “No, Nikolas and Emily are out on a date, and Elizabeth is having dinner with Alexis and Ned.”
Luke smirked. “Elizabeth, huh? I didn’t know she was on your list of people to hang out with already!”
Lucky rolled his eyes and stood up again. “I’m going to a walk. He walked to the door as it opened for him and left. A moment later, it slammed shut.
“Ooh, I guess that’ll teach me!” Luke muttered in amusement. Lucky never used his powers like that unless he was annoyed or angry

“Thanks for dinner. It was nice meeting you, and congratulations!” Liz said to Ned and Alexis as she got out of the car. They waved and drove off once she had reached the front porch. She looked at the door for a moment, then decided not to go inside yet. It was still kind of early, and she didn’t feel like talking to her grandmother yet. Instead, she left the porch and walked off towards the park. It was another beautiful night, and she wanted to enjoy it for a little while longer before going indoors.
She walked leisurely through the park, admiring the stars, smelling the flowers, listening to the crickets. It had been such a perfect evening, almost like being with a real family. Her mother was getting married to man who seemed to love her more than life itself, and she was going to be the maid of honor! They had invited her to the Quartermaines’ for dinner in a few days, and she was kind of nervous. After all the horror stories Ned told tonight, she was almost afraid to go. ‘At least Emily and Alexis will be there,’ she thought.

Lucky strolled down the street, whistling quietly to himself. He didn’t know why he was so restless tonight, it wasn’t like him to be that way. He looked up to see if there was still a full moon, but it wasn’t anymore, so he couldn’t blame that. Maybe taking a walk would help calm him down.
He walked past Kelly’s and smiled as the Closed sign flipped over. ‘I wonder how many times I’m going to have to do that before Tammy gives up and takes it down for good!’ he thought to himself. He used to do it to his Aunt Ruby all the time, but she always knew it was him. His family all knew about their powers, so messing with them was no fun. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and wandered out to the docks, thinking about the last time he was there at night, when he had met Elizabeth.

Liz left the park and came upon Kelly’s. “That’s strange,” she muttered, seeing the Open sign in the window. “One of Tammy’s tenants must be messing with it again.” She waved her hand and it flipped back to the Closed side. “What would she do without me?”
She moved on to the docks, thinking about the first time she was there, when she met Lucky. She smiled at the memory and looked up at the stars. Port Charles was a small town, and was rather dark at night, so it was easy to see all the stars. They shimmered and twinkled at her as she walked beneath them. She spotted Wyndemere looming off in the distance and decided to get a closer look. Maybe she would even ask Alexis sometime to introduce her to Stefan. After all, he was her uncle, even if the two of them were estranged.
The streetlamp right ahead was out again, but flared to life as soon as she passed. She stopped at the launch and gazed across the water at Spoon Island, wondering what kind of reception she would get from her uncle when she met him. Alexis had told her stories about growing up with him, and he seemed like a very kind, loving person, but that house out there was just way too creepy for anyone normal to be living there!
~*~
Lucky was sitting on a bench, watching Wyndemere, when he saw a light out of the corner of his eye. He turned and smiled as he saw Elizabeth walking across the docks. What were the odds that they’d be out walking here at the same time again? She turned her back on him and looked out at the island. He didn’t want to interrupt her right away, since she seemed to be deep in thought about something, so he just sat back and watched the way the breeze blew softly through her hair.
After a few minutes, he started to feel kind of guilty for watching her like that, so he stood up and walked a little closer to her, trying not to startle her. “Can’t get enough of that place, can you?” he asked softly.
Liz jumped slightly at the sudden voice and turned around, smiling. What were the odds that he would be here again? “I was just looking. I haven’t met him yet, my uncle, I mean. I was wondering what he was like, if he would like me, that sort of thing.”
“Well, I can’t speak for Stefan, not that I’d ever want to, but he’d have to be crazy not to like you,” Lucky said, then blushed when he heard himself. Luckily it was dark, so she couldn’t see how red his face had probably become.
“Thanks. I’m nervous about it. Maybe I’ll ask Nikolas about him sometime.”
“Nikolas is kind of biased, though. He actually likes Stefan!” He chuckled, then took a few more steps so that he was standing next to her. They both looked out at the water in silence for a few moments before he spoke again. “So how was your dinner tonight?”
Liz smiled slightly, surprised that he remembered. “It was wonderful. Ned is so nice. Oh, they’re getting married, isn’t that great? I’m so happy for them, they seem so in love.” She sighed, wondering if she would ever find that with someone.
Lucky glanced over, noticing the dreamy look she had on her face all of a sudden. “That’s cool. They’ve been going out for a long time, I was starting to wonder if he’d ever pop the question. I guess this means you’re going to be a Quartermaine too, huh?”
She chuckled and shook her head. “I think I’m more worried about that than the Cassidine part! Some of the stories he was telling tonight were unbelievable! Please tell me that family isn’t really as crazy as he says they are?”
“Sorry, I can’t do that. They’re pretty nuts. How they all live in that house together without killing each other is beyond me! Oh, well, there was that one time Reginald tried to kill Katherine...”
She turned to look at him in shock. “What?”
“I guess Ned forgot that one. It was a long time ago. Ned was blackmailed into marrying Katherine Bell, and no one in the house except Edward liked her. So, one day Reginald, he’s their butler, decided to take matters into his own hands, and poisoned her. She almost died.” He laughed at the look of utter horror that had crossed her face.
“That’s awful! Does he still work there?”
“Oh yeah, he’s been with them forever. Anyway, he only did what the rest of them had all wanted to do at one point or another. They probably gave him a raise!”
She shook her head and looked back at the water. “Now I’m really nervous about going there!”
“Uh-oh, they invited you over all ready?”
She nodded. “Yeah, night after tomorrow. They’re going to announce their engagement and introduce me at the same time.”
“You’re kidding! Oh, I’d love to be there to see the look on Edward’s face when he finds out his grandson is marrying a Cassidine!”
Suddenly, she got an idea and whirled around, grabbing him by the shoulders. “Come with me then! Oh, please, I need all the support I can get. I mean, I know Emily will be there, but I don’t know her that well yet, and Alexis will be busy with Ned most of the time, and I’m just so afraid of those people already, and I haven’t even mte them yet! Please, say you’ll go!” She had this desperate look in her eyes that he found himself unable to turn down.
“Sure, if you’re that worried, I’ll go I’m not sure how you’re going to explain why I’m there, though.”
She chewed on her lower lip, thinking. “Well, you’re Emily’s friend, right? Isn’t that enough?”
“Maybe, but not for a family dinner like that. It would look kind of weird for me to be there.”
“Look, you’re my guest, okay? What’s wrong with that? I’ll call Alexis tomorrow and have her ask Ned if it’s all right. Do you think they’ll mind?”
He shrugged. “I don’t know. As long it’s just me, I guess not. Edward doesn’t exactly like my dad.”
“You mean he hates the Cassidines and the Spencers?”
Lucky nodded. “And the Jacks’s. Oh, and he hates Sonny Corinthos, and isn’t too fond of Jason Morgan, even though Jason’s actually his grandson....long story.”
Elizabeth looked at him in shock. “Doesn’t he like anyone?”
He thought for a moment and smiled. “He has a soft spot for beautiful women, so you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.”
She blushed, then laughed when she saw the embarrassment on his face. ‘Did I just say that out loud?’ he thought, wanting to crawl under a rock somewhere and die.
